Independent Technology Professional in the area of Electrical Power
Kannan is an Independent Technology Professional in the area of Electrical Power. He is chairing the Technology Track on “Digital Transformation of Power Delivery” at the eTechNxT pavilion in ELECRAMA 2018.
He worked with GE Global Research from 2001 - 2017 holding various leadership positions within the research organization. In his first role, as the manager of Electrical Power Technology group in Bangalore, he developed and led a team of technologists doing research in the areas of Power Electronics, Power Systems and Energy Storage. In 2009, he moved to GE Global Research Niskayuna, New York, as the Power Systems Platform Leader, responsible for overseeing all Smart Grid research activities across GE Global Research. He moved back to India in 2012 and served as the Technology Leader for Electrical Systems until 2017.
Prior to GE, he worked with Entergy Services Inc., one of the largest electric power utilities in the US for over 4 years, where he was responsible for evaluating new technologies to the transmission system, performing technical studies and recommending solutions.
Kannan obtained his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Tulane University in 1996.
He also served as the chair of the IEEE – Power and Energy Society, Bangalore Chapter, 2014-15.
