Founder, Lava International

Mr. Rai started his entrepreneurial journey in 1992 by founding Biogentek - a venture in the field biotechnology. In 1996, Mr. Rai started his venture as a partner in a logistics company – Perfect Handling, later renamed as Amexpress Worldwide Logistics, engaged in freight forwarding, customs clearance, warehousing and distribution.

In 2003, Mr. Hari Om Rai co-founded Pacetel Communications in partnership with BBK Telecommunication Company, China (now known as VIVO) that ventured into landline and fixed wireless phones for selling co-branded products in India. Lava International is an offshoot of Pacetel.

Established in 2009, Lava International today is a leading Mobile Handset Company in India and has expanded its operations to 13 other countries in rest of the world as well. In the international markets the company is growing rapidly and is already among top 3 players in many of these countries it operates in.

With the vision to “Empower people to do more to be more”, Lava has shown tremendous growth over the years with its annual turnover crossing $1.2 Billion. The company has its Headquarter in Noida, Uttar Pradesh and has also set up 2 manufacturing facilities and a repair factory with approximately 300,000 square feet area in Noida itself. The company currently has a direct employee strength of 25000 people and additionally employment to over 5000 people is provided on off-roll basis.

Right from its inception Lava has been at the forefront of building a strong ecosystem of design and manufacturing of mobile handsets. The company has been building mobile handset design capability, including Industrial Design, Mechanical Design, Hardware Design & software design, out of its China facility where over 700 engineers have been employed for the purpose.

In line with Govt. of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, Lava has taken a lead in support of this important nation building program and has already set up a design team in India, becoming the first to do so in the country. With this ‘Design in India’ initiative Lava is now the only Mobile handset company that makes truly Make In India phones with complete control on design and manufacturing within India.

Lava products are available through a nationwide retail network of 1.5Lakh retailers who in turn are directly served by over 1000 distributors. Lava’s after sales service network is one of the largest in the country with over 1000 professionally managed service centers focused on speed and quality of service.

Mr. Rai is also the Co-Chairman of Government of India’s Fast Track Task Force to catalyze and re-establish the mobile handsets manufacturing eco-system in India.
